5A2 Title Game
Both teams looked nervous early as both offenses sputtered a little but it was Centennial opened up the scoring with a Tom Ramsey safety to put the Coyotes up 2-0 early.
Warren Johnson answered with an excellent return on the free kick that put Centennial in scoring position at the Rattler's 8 yard line. Centennial was unable to capitalize and ended up missing not one but two field goals after a roughing call. End of 1 it was Centennial 2 North Canyon 0.
It was Warren Johnson again with an excellent return early in the 2nd quarter that put the Coyotes on the board again. He returned a punt 40 yards to paydirt.
Centennial was able to answer right back, using a strong passing game to march down the field and score on an 11 yard QB Shane Mascarenas draw. Score after 3 was 16-15 Centennial.
The game changed early in the
4th quarter when the Rattler's DE Will Osolinsky recovered a fumble and
returned it to midfield to give NC the momentum. NC moved the ball down the
field and scored on 4th and 6 as
The Rattler's D came up huge again on the next possession as Osolinsky recovered a blocked punt and returned it to the 19 yard line. Two plays later, QB Tim Bowling scored on a 11 yard run to make the score 27-16. All of Centennial's hopes came to an end when Brady Shimek intercepted Mascarenas late to seal the deal.
It looked like Centennial might
put the game away early, looking dominate in the 1st quarter but were
unable to capitalize on scoring possessions. Once
North Canyon FB/LB Anthony Llanos pounded the ball the ball effectively all night rushing over 150 yards and 1 score.
Centennial DT Tom Ramsey came up big for the Coyotes with a safety and wreaked havoc on the LOS.
