The Woody Report #2!

Here's this week's edition of the Woody Report, where I rank the state's 25 top college prospects. Keep in mind that these are not the state's BEST performers, but rather the seniors I expect to be among the state's best college recruits. I based this list on prior performance, team performance, and physical attributes like size and speed:

  1. Kyle Caldwell, FB/DL, Saguaro-A big (6-4, 250), tough player with great athleticism…a returning all-state pick…Going into his third year of starting for the two-time state semifinalist Sabercats.
  2. MARCUS THOMAS, RB, TOLLESON-Rushed for over 2,000-yards as a junior in 2001…another returning all-state pick…also an outstanding track athlete, high jumping 6-6…was the understudy for current U of A and former Tolleson star Mike Bell as a sophomore.
  3. THOMAS HUFF, WR, CAMELBACK-A big (6-4, 205) receiver with good hands and speed…a terrific athlete, he also stars in basketball and is a top-flight hurdler…being recruited in both basketball and track.
  4. ERIC ANDERSON, DB, CAMELBACK-A returning Super All-State pick…has the size (6-2, 200) to be a big-time player at the next level.
  5. BRETT PALMER, DL, MARCOS DE NIZE-The state's first commitment, verballing to ASU…All-region pick and region lineman of the year…recorded 9 sacks and 5 fumble recoveries as a junior.
  6. AMMON WOLFLEY, LB, PEORIA-A 5A All-state pick by Phoenix Metro Football…leader of defense that held seven opponents under 14 points.

  10. CHAZ BENNET, RB, SAGUARO-A big (6-2, 195) back for the ‘Cats…after playing in a spread for two years, should be the focus of a new, physical ground game for Saguaro.
  11. JOSH JORDAN, WR, CHANDLER-An accomplished track athlete, his speed makes up for his lack of height (5-7)…averaged 24.3 yards a catch on 40 receptions in 2001.
  12. DARIUS CADE, RB, CHANDLER-Leading rusher for the Wolves in 2001…played an integral role for Chandler as they went from 1-9 in 2000 to 7-3.
