Jon Ziri. Marcos de Niza 6'2" Sr.
Ziri caught the eye of many this summer, including one west coast recruiting service who ranked him the #15 2guard in the west. Ahead of Gerad Punch! I won't go there, BUT, this kid came outta nowhere to elevate his stock into the "SHOW". (DI Ball). Ziri, who reminds many of former MdN great and LMU player Robert Davis, has the athletic body, quicks, and explosiveness to be a major contributor at a quality low DI program. If Ziri improves his basketball skill, including his handle, and shot off the move, he could land in the mid-major level by springtime.
Jon helped Marcos shock the State capturing the 5A State crown (16pts/game) but needs to be the "go to guy" for them to repeat. Although he generated interest among many this summer, I believe his true skill and talent will come out under Coach Dave Stark at MdN. Ziri's ability is more suited for a structured system, which you don't have in the Club Ball circuit. Under the direction of Stark, he will surly be a top 3 pick during the late signing period, assuming 5 or 6 of my top 10 commit early. His athleticism and improvement during 2002-2003 could land him in a high profile program.
A definite fan fav with his thunderous dunks, Ziri will no doubt draw crowds whether at home or away, including the college recruiters chasing this "Big Time" athlete all the way to AWA.
Jon Ziri is my sleeper pick to rise up and become the 5A State player of the Year come March.
Good Luck JZ, and keep working on that left!
