Quarterback Brad Gruner from Hamilton did everything you could ask him to do this year. After suffering an injury in the first series of his junior year, Gruner still had much to prove. He answered all of those questions this year, leading Hamilton to a 13-1 record and a 5A1 state title.
He was impressive all season passing for 2,558 yards, completing over 61% of his passes and throwing 27 TDs versus only 5 INTs. He was equally as impressive in the state championship game versus Mesa Mt. View, completing 15 of 22 passes for 209 yards and 3 TDs. The only thing he didn't have was a division-one scholarship offer.
That all changed this weekend. Gruner made an official visit to the University of New Mexico. While in Albuquerque, Gruner was offered by head Coach Rocky Long and his staff and he accepted the offer.
The Lobos are getting a 6'2 215 pound QB that is a very accurate passer, is well coached (Hamilton head coach Steve Belles was a QB at Notre Dame) and is a proven winner.
