Player Spotlight: Jamal Womble

Q & A with RB Jamal Womble from Buena HS (Sierra Vista, AZ).

Scout.com: What were your stats/honors from last season?
Jamal Womble: "1230 yards rushing and 14 TDs. All region (2nd team)."
 
What is your official height and weight?
"5-10, 212."
 
What is your greatest football memory?
"Playing with the people on my team last year. I have a lot of good memories with those guys."
 
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
"Improve on our last season, get into the playoffs and go for that championship. Personally, I want to have about 2,500 all purpose yards and break my schools TD record."
 
How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer?
"I am working out Mon-Sat and speed training. I will be at B2G Elite Camp and a few one day camps."
 
What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?
"Decision making is something I really improved on from my sophmore season and I'm working on making an impact without the ball in my hands."
 
Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
"Jake Muasau, Nick Stewart, David Alexender and Jon Sayler all could play at D-1 level."
 
Name one teammate you really respect and why?
"I couldn't name one person because we have so many guys that put in a lot of work everyday from freshman to seniors."
 
What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
"I just want to get into a good school so I can get a degree and make an impact on the program."
 
Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet?
"About 40 schools are recruiting me right now and I text a lot. Florida St., UCLA, Notre Dame, Ohio St., North Carolina are a few off the top off my head. I haven't received any offers in the mail yet but a few schools have told me they were going to offer."
 
Would you consider staying in state to play in college?
"Yes I would. I talk with Coach Robinson from Arizona a lot and ASU just started contacting a couple days after signing day."
 
What would your top 5 college choices be?
"That's hards to say because I like so many places but right now...Ohio St., Notre Dame, North Carolina, UCLA and Clemson."
 
What other sports do you play?
"I play varsity basketball and run track."
 
What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?
"350 on bench, 510 Squat, 285 clean, 40 4.39 (hand) and 4.50 (electronic)."
 
How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
"He would say I'm a combo back because I can run over some linemen and outrun most DBs."
 
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
"My strengths are my speed and strength. It's tough to bring me down and I try to punish you on every carry. My weakness would be blocking and play fakes, I just need to put a better effort when I don't have the ball."
 
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
"Someone told me, It's your choice to be great."
 
Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?
"Expect one of the fastest defenses in the state and a team looking to make a run in the playoffs." 

What can a college program expect from you as a player?
"A team player and a person that will do anything to help the team win."
 
What is your GPA and SAT/ACT score?
"GPA 3.2 and SAT N/A."

What will the main factors be when you choose a school?
"Coaching stability, direction program is headed and academics."
