The recruiting process can be both an exciting and stressful time for a high school player. The get phone calls from college coaches and various media outlets while trying to balance the recruiting with school, training and spring sports. RB Covaughn Deboskie from Hamilton HS (Chandler, AZ) is one of the state's recruits. He also excells in the classroom and as a sprinter on the track team. Covaughn sat down and had a chat with SCout.com to discuss recruiting.
How is recruiting going so far?
"The recruiting process is going great but it's like I'm starting to go into a happy/scare prediciment because I am starting to get all this attention."
What offers do you have?
"I currently have seven offers from Navy, ASU, U of A, Illnois, Oregon State, UCLA and Stanford."
Your teammate Gerell Robinson committed early to Arizona, with Cal, Stanford and UCLA being some of your top schools from the beginning and you now getting offers from two of them, any chance of committing soon?
"I don't think I am going to commit anytime soon because the college I choose to go to I am going to be there for three to four years. So I am going to take this one very carefully because I am done transferring from school to school (He transferred from Salpointe Catholic in Tucson to Hamilton his sophomore year)."
When do you think you will commit?
"I think I will commit during the end of my senior season but if I feel comfortable around mid season then I'll do that. The situations very. So the best answer I could give you is I don't know"
What camps or unofficial visits are you planning this summer?
"Man, there are so many, the B2G in LA, the Hawaii camp, the Scout.com camp in LA, South Carolina one day camp and maybe some other one day camps. But I plan on taking some unofficials to some of the California schools, definitely ASU and U of A because they have the closest to my house advantage."
What other schools that have not offered are you really interested in?
"USC, Cal, Texas, South Carolina, Clemson, Auburn, Notre Dame, Oregon and Oklahoma."
What is your SAT score and GPA?
"I got a 1380 on the new SAT and I have a 4.16 GPA."
Who are you seeking advice from in regards to recruiting?
"I am taking advice from anyone. To me, I am a sponge and advice is like knowledge and I want to soak up as much as I can from anyone that wants to give me insight. Some of the people I am getting insight from are my Mom, Dad, trainer Chad Ikei, Bryant Nelson (step dad), Junior Spivey, Josh Scobey, Kenny King, Hakim Hill and his brother Kalil Hill, JD Runnels, Timmy Chang, Larry Fitzgerald and a lot of others that have the knowledge of football and the recruiting process."
