Linebacker Kurt Mangum has really made a name for himself with a very busy spring of hitting the combine circuit and making unofficial visits. Mangum was forced to do this in order to stay on the radar of division-one coaches as a legit division-one prospect. A transfer in schools and a change in position was the factor in this busy spring.
Last season playing defensive end for the state champion Hamilton Huskies (Chandler, AZ), Mangum recorded 67 tackles and 7 sacks measuring in at 6-1 and over 240 pounds. He has since transferred to Basha HS and has decided to switch positions. He will play linebacker for the Bears and has been working very hard to get to a weight that would better suit him for that switch. He now weighs in the 225 pound range and has cut his forty time to just under 4.6 (hand timed at 4.59 at the Scout.com combine in LA).
Here are some clips of the new and improved Kurt Mangum at a recent work out with his personal trainer:
Although Mangum currently does not hold an offer, he is hearing from schools from coast to coast. His most recent list of favorite schools is Arizona State, Cal, Illinois, Stanford, UCLA and USC in no particular order. He also told us today that he feels like one school is close to offering but he does not want to say until it becomes official.
