Arizona Junior Getting Early Offers

Junior defensive tackle Corey Adams from Saguaro HS (Scottsdale, AZ) will be one of the top recruits of 2009. He currently has four offers and chats with Scout.com about his new found recruitign attention.

Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State and Michigan. That is the list of schools that have offered defensive tackle Corey Adams from Saguaro HS (Scottsdale, AZ)… and he is only a junior!

Of course all of these offers are only verbal at this time because schools cannot officially offer juniors until September 1st but expect a stack of offer letters to be waiting for the 6-3 275 pounder in the coaches office come early Sept.

The measurables are there. Adams stands 6-3 and weighs in the 265-270 pound range. He has run a 4.85 electronic forty. He benches 370 pounds and has hit 185 for 33 reps. He claims a best squat of 460 and that "was a few months ago" according to Adams. He also sports a 2.8 GPA.

He was named 2nd team all region last year for the 4A1 state champion Sagauro Sabercats. He recorded 52 tackles and 11 sacks and showed very early signs that he would be a very highly recruited player. He uses his hands well, he gets down the line of scrimmage, plays with a solid base and pad level and has a good motor. But did Corey expect to get attention already? He says, "Not this early, it was a big surprise."

Of the four schools that have offered, three have said that they would like him to play defensive tackle. Only Oregon State has expressed interest in him playing offensive line, which he will play this year along with some fullback.

Adams says this about the four schools that have offered him, "All are good schools. Three of the four want me for defense. I have met the defensive line coach at ASU and UofA and the defensive coordinator at Michigan. They want me to play d-line. Oregon State wants me on o-line. Coach Cavanaugh (OSU OL coach) is a good guy but I'm not sure about playing o-line."

When asked about other schools he might be interested in he says, "Any big school. I can't be picky. I will look at anyone that is interested in me."

His childhood favorites were ASU, Ohio State and Michigan. "I have liked ASU since I was little." He adds, "Buckeyes, Ohio State. I have always rooted for them and Michigan."

Adams describes his speed and size advantages as his obvious strengths but also says, "Staying clear minded is a big help. I out think and out power my opponent."

Check back with Scout.com for more on this rising junior. He looks to be one of the top recruits on the west coast over the next two years.
