Recruiting Hot for Arizona's Anthony

Cornerback Marc Anthony from Chandler HS (Chandler, AZ) has had a busy summer. From combines to offers to training, no doubt the #32 ranked corner in the country could use a breather. The dust has started to settle and Anthony has started to narrow down his list of schools.

The 6-0 185 pound Marc Anthony says that Michigan has a slight lead over Boise State, Nebraska, Oregon State, Washington, Colorado, Arizona State and Illinois. All have offered.

He has had a busy summer, attending camps at Michigan, Arizona State and Colorado. He held an offer from ASU before the camps but earned offers for his performances in Ann Arbor and Boulder.

His two most recent offers have come from Michigan (yesterday) and Nebraska (this morning) and here are his thoughts on both:

On Michigan

"I grew up a Michigan fan. They are one of the top programs in the nation every year."

About the camp

"It was fun. It was raining and humid. It was the firt time I had put on a helmet since December so that was rough. I did good in the drills, one on ones and seven on seven. When it was time for lunch, Coach English walked me over to Coach Carr's office. That's where it all happened (the offer). I couldn't say anything. I was just sitting there."

Anthony obviously liked the offer and the staff told him that they liked how he covered. They were excited to see him in person and see how fast he really is.

Anthony has some ties to Nebraska. His mother is friends with former Husker DB Toby Wright and Anthony actually trains with him. He said that he and Wright spoke about him possibly playing in Lincoln and Wright offered to give the staff a call. Anthony kid of blew it off saying, "I didn't think I could play for them. They are a good school and I never thought I could."

The Nebraska staff obviously thought different and Anthony says that NU coach Bill Busch called and offered him this morning. "He (Busch) says that the Arizona area has produced a lot of talent. He watched the tape along with the other coaches and offered me along with Dion (teammate Dion Jordan)."

Anthony now holds 14 offers, those offers being Nebraska, Michigan, UTEP, Colorado, Colorado State, Illinois, San Diego State, Oregon State, Arizona State, Wyoming, Washington State, Boise State, Washington and Utah.

One school that he keeps mentioning in interviews as one of his favorites is Boise State. With a lot of major BCS conference schools highly recruiting Marc, he was asked what has kept Boise State in the picture?

"I watched the game last year (versus Oklahoma). It was the most exciting bowl game I have ever seen. I thought maybe I might have a chance to help them win a championship. To go out and play and get on the field."

Always the big question with recruits is when they plan on committing and Anthony responded, "I probably will wait until the season to set up my visits. I will probably commit after I take all five of my visits. I will sit down and talk with my parents and call the rest of my family. I want to feel which place fits me best and then I'll commit."
