It is always exciting when a student athlete commits to a college but few in my years of covering high school football sounded as excited as Hamilton's Elliott Harper when he called me and made it publically known of his decision to commit to the University of Nevada.
Harper stated that he "really wanted to commit before the season. They have two senior linebackers starting that will graduate and I could possible compete for playing time or start as a freshman."
He adds, "It is not too far away. I just felt it was the right place for me."
Harper made his intentions known to offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Chis Klenakis who recruits Arizona for the Wolfpack. "Coach K was really excited. He is in Lake Tahoe and said if it wasn't so cold he would jump in the lake," Harper jokes. Elliott has not heard a reaction from Coach Ault yet, he is scheduled to call him at 8:30.
Harper also states that his parents are pleased with the choice. "They are excited about me committing and feel that Nevada is the right place for me too."
Elliott also had an offer from Northern Arizona. He says he is firmly committed to Nevada but would still weigh other options if they arose.
He says he will visit Reno sometime in mid December but has no official date set yet.
The coaches would like him to play middle linebacker and Harper will major in business.
