The Nighthawks leave the 4A ranks where they were 9-3 and jump into the 5A2 Southern Region. Definitely the biggest loss will be the pass-catch combo of Bobby Farley to Colin Gilbert. Gilbert will be walking on at Colorado. Coach Minor says that new QB Chris Carlson and WR Jay Helixon have made big strides this summer and one can only hope they will be as productive as their predecessors. Good news is the leading rusher D'Juan Cherry returns and he will be called upon to ease the transition.

Cherry doubles as one of southern Arizona's top DBs and will be part of what Coach Minor expects to be a "physical defense". Add junior LB Jake Fischer, who will be one of 2009's top recruits, and DE Wes Hohman and his 11 sacks to the mix and you can see why Minor is optimistic about this chances on D.

The ‘Hawks JV squad went 4-4 and have some linemen that could develop into quality players with some hard work.

Ridge quietly has been one of the top teams in 4A over the past few years; don't expect much of a drop-off. They have tough games against Buena, Casa Grande, Salpointe and Sunnyside. If they can pull a win or two off then they may find themselves in the playoffs in their first year in 5A.
