The Rattlers move out of the 5A2 ranks where they have been one of the top teams over the past few years and into the 5A1 Metro. Their losses are great with the departure of all staters Jordan Scott and Brandon Harris. Scott signed with NAU but opted to go to GCC with Harris, Hampton and Shimek. They took a pretty significant loss when QB Blake Schembri decided to transfer to Chaparral. He led the team in passing and his departure leaves Coach Cole likely to use a freshman QB. He used one in passing league, unless someone else steps up. The good thing is that while the Rattlers are rebuilding, the rest of the region has not traditionally been strong except for Maryvale but they were down last year going 0-10. I actually have picked NC to win the region in their first year in it. I feel they will have more depth then the other teams in their region (Maryvale, Trevor Browne, Alhambra and Chavez). I don't know if they will win 9 games again but I believe they will have a winning record and make the playoffs in their first season in 5A1.

Cole focused on team strength this off-season and states that Rios (who has committed to Cal as a long snapper), Delacruz, Johnson, Wilson, McKendrick, Kastsofus and Dodson all did well. All but center Sam Wilson play on the defensive side of the ball. Cole is really high on CB Paul Dodson and says, "He will be our go to guy for the next two years. He is a D1 talent." They will be counted on to help a young team that calls up players from a 1-8 JV team to get through their first season in 5A1.
