No one will deny it, Tempe struggled last year. They went 1-9 and scored 14 or less in all but their 30 point win over Page. Numbers were down for first year coach Johnny Rodriguez but given some time, he could get this ship back on course.

Coach Rodriguez says, "We will still be young, but at least we return about 14 players who all received quality time for us last year. We are in much better shape overall as the majority of our kids lifted this winter, spring and summer."

Back on offense will be QB Pedro Rubio. Rodriguez says that Rubio had a "great off-season". His main target looks to be junior Jacob Miranda. What hurts is the Buffaloes top three rushers are gone as well as their top OLs Forrest Decuir and Sean McPhearson.

The defense returns some players and Rodriguez points to his d-line as being one of the strengths of the team. LBs Billy Hammel and David Johnson combined for 105 tackles and DE Jordan Wilson pitched in a couple of sacks last year as a sophomore.

Tempe has five playoffs opponents from last year on their schedule and somehow they manage to have to travel to four of them. They have some winnable games against Dysart and Cortez who also struggled last year so I wouldn't be surprised if they beat last year's win total.
