The Wolves were actually 3-1 four weeks into the season but that can be a little deceiving as their first two wins were over winless Maryvale and Carl Hayden. They ended up losing the last six games and were never able to muster more then six points in any of those losses. To their credit, Desert Mountain did have seven playoff teams on the schedule and even managed a win over one of them (Casa Grande).

Coach Tabor does return over half of last year's roster, he says, "We are much stronger than last year. We are carrying 19 seniors, 12 juniors and 10 sophomores and will probably start 6 of them." He will also benefit from players moving up from the lower levels. Tabor comments, "Our JV was 4-5 last year and made some progress. The frosh were 6-3 and could have easily been 7-1."

The defense returns some solid players and should be led by DB Matt Galtiero and LB Austin Flannary. Tabor says, "Matt Galtiero is looking good at free safety and also at receiver. Austin Flannary has been hurt for the last month and we hope to have him back this week." Flannary is a big kid but has been hurt for most of the last two years.

The Wolves also have some winnable games but it will be tough to beat the four proven winners that also occupy this region and Tabor knows this, "Our 2nd half of the season is tough. We have Red Mountain, Brophy, St. Mary's and Mt. Ridge. Welcome to 5A1."
