Bourgade v. NWCC

Northwest Community Christian Pitched a shutout against Bourgade Catholic.

When the 2A Metro region was dissolved in the AIA realignment, Bourgade Catholic and Northwest Christian made sure they would continue to play one another despite being placed in different regions.

Coach's Kent Lavine of Bourgade and Derek Wahlstrom of Northwest have the utmost respect for one another and enjoy the competition of playing against each other.

Last Thursday nights battle took place at Northwest Christian on a hot August night.  The Crusaders looked to avenge last season's 21-7 loss to the Golden Eagles while Bourgade Catholic looked to get their offense on track after a slow first game win against a surprisingly tough South Pointe Academy.

In last year's loss to Bourgade, Northwest quarterback Jacob Franz threw 50 times, completing 20 while getting intercepted twice.  The Crusaders were hoping an improved running attack led by junior Ross Stanley would keep them from filling the air again.

Bourgade knew they had to stop junior all-state tight end Adam Mosbrucker, or at least contain him, to stop the Crusader offense.

The best laid plans don't always work.

Mosbrucker had a field day against the Bourgade secondary.  He caught 3 touchdown passes of all varieties. A nice grab behind the secondary on a perfect throw from France.  A nifty 55 yard catch and run through the Golden Eagle defense.  And a pretty corner route to beat the safety.

The Golden Eagles self- destructed,  losing an onsides kick to Northwest to start the game, muffing a fumble, and throwing three picks.  When quarterback Michael Vyles did put the ball on target, his receivers dropped several.  Junior's David Flores and Robbi Garcia played strong as did defensive tackle Grant Harper until he was hurt.

Final score:  Northwest Christian 27 Bourgade 0.  Game balls go to Mosbrucker for another huge game, the Northwest offensive line led by Preston Linser who gave France all kinds of time to throw, and to the Crusader defense for pitching a shutout.
