Introducing Mike Brown

Peoria (AZ) Cactus Junior RB will be one of the state's top prospects

Cactus junior running back Mike Brown has been terrorizing opposing defenses for the past year and a half.

Last year as a sophomore, Brown was named 1st team all region after rushing for 1,230 yards and 13 touchdowns. Through just four games this year, the 5-10 185 pounder has amassed 630 yards and 6 TDs for the undefeated Cobras.

Make no mistake about it, college coaches have taken notice.

Brown says that Cal, Oregon, LSU, Arizona St., Arizona, Michigan and Colorado have been in contact. The Wolverines and Buffaloes have stopped by the school according to Brown.

No one has offered yet but Brown lists Cal and Miami as his early favorites.

On Miami:

"They are an inspiring program. They will get back on track."

On Cal:

"They are organized and give everyone a fair chance, they play no favorites."

It is very early but Mike says that he will be looking at "who needs running backs, who has a good offensive line and for a good running back coach" when he chooses a school.

Brown lists "coachability" as his strongest asset. He states, "A lot of people have talent but can they be coaches or not?"

Brown also has outstanding speed. He says that he has been clocked at 4.5 in the forty (electronic) and he placed 3rd in the 4A state track meet in the 100 meters last year, turning in a best time of 10.96.

Brown says that his GPA is a 2.0 and he admits that he needs to improve it. "I slacked off and realized it. I am going to raise it up," he adds. He is scheduled to take the SAT over the winter break.

Cactus plays undefeated Peoria tonight in region play.
