Basha v. Desert Vista

The Thunder roll in important Central region match-up

Basha got the game off on the right foot. They came out and ran the no-huddle offense, had Desert Vista on their heels and ran the ball six straight times for 71 yards and led 7-0 with only 1:41 off the clock.

The drive saw Quinn Evans get the bulk of their carries including an awesome 31 yard run before Troy Graham would take it in from a yard out.

But this is all that Basha would muster until late in the 4th quarter.

Desert Vista answered in quick fashion. Devon Kennard pounded the ball for 39 yards on four carries before Allante Battle ran it in from 22 yard out of a sweep right.

A 3 and out and a bad punt gave DV the ball at midfield and it only took them five plays to score again when Luke Matthews ran it in from six yards out. The score was now 14-7 with 3:47 to play in the first quarter.

DV pushed the score to 17-7 after a Brock Jolly field goal from 37 yards out.

Desert Vista had two chances to push the score even further but Kennard fumbled while diving in the end zone and Matthews fumbled after a 15 yard catch that put them in field goal range.

Score at half 17-7 Desert Vista

Desert Vista added two more scores in the 3rd quarter. The first was Kennard on a short run and the 2nd was a QB Cole Pembroke run.

Score at the end of 3 was 31-7 Desert Vista

Basha added another score late in the 4th quarter when QB Troy Graham hooked up with Ryan McBurney from four yards out.

Final 31-14 Desert Vista

Bottom line

This was a huge game. With Corona del Sol also undefeated in region play. It looks as though Corona and DV will face off for the title.

Basha came out and pretty much moved the ball at will in this game in the beginning but DV made the adjustments and scored 31 unanswered. It looks as though Desert Vista has awoken. They ran the ball well and threw it when needed. The defense played extremely well.
