Friday Night Phenoms

Region titles decided and upset wins play a part in this week's edition of Friday Night Phenoms.

Friday Night Phenoms (10/29/2007)

This week we saw several teams win their region's championship and with one week to go in the regular season, who stepped their game up on Friday night?

Player of the Week

Desert Ridge QB Josh Cain. Not many people expected DR to be playing this well especially after losing star QB Clay Busch who took his game to 1AA Fordham. Cain has been great this year. On Friday he went 30 of 49 for 464 yards and 4 TDs in their win over Horizon.

Aracdia QB Colby Kirkegaard had a nice night in their OT win over Tempe. He was 13 of 22 for 199 yards and 3 TDs. He added 2 more rushing scores.

Gotta like what Sean Renfree did in one half of play against Cortez. He was 12 of 20 for 331 yards and 6 TDs. WR Brandon Hirneise had 119 of those yards and 2 TDs. TE Austin Briehl had 100 yards and 2 TDs and WR Andy Wilder had 107 yards and 2 TDs.

Saguaro's Tim Ruben accounted for 300 yards of offense. He rushed for 194 yards and 3 TDs and had 110 yards in the air versus McClintock.

Red Mountain's Jarison Johnson was the workhorse on Friday. With star receiver Aaron Ellsworth out, Johnson was asked to carry the load against Mt. View. He rushed 40 times for 209 yards and helped RM win the East Valley Region.

SCA's Ryan Tully continues n his hot streak. He rushed for 208 yards and 2 TDs on just 19 carries against Valley Christian.

Harrison Evens from Marcos rushed for 147 yards and 2 scores on just 9 carries against Skyline.

AJ's Shane "The Train" McCullen rushed for 207 yards and 2 scores versus Cactus Shadows.

Peoria's Jamal Miles reached the endzone 5 times against Agua Fria. On the night he had 165 yards on 16 carries.

Cortez RB Josh Scales rushed for 200 yards on 25 carries versus Notre Dame.

North Canyon's Paul Dodson had another big night. He rushed for 202 yards and 3 TDs.

James Morrison had a nice night in St. Mary's OT loss to Mt. Ridge. He had 18 carries for 186 yards and 2 TDs.

Mingus' Layton Dickerson rushed for 188 yards and 2 TDs on just 7 carries.

Chino Valley RB Johnny Kennedy makes the list for the 1st time. He rushed for 200 yards and 2 TDs against South Pointe.

Brophy's Bobby Rodrigues had a big night in place of Ray Polk. He rushed for 237 yards and 2 scores against Desert Mountain.

Jeff Hughes from centennial reached the endzone 3 times on 7 touches. He had 4 carries for 57 yards and a score and 3 catches for 164 yards and 2 TDs against Sunrise Mountain.

D'Juan Cherry came up big in Ironwood Ridge's upset of Sunnyside. He had 185 yards rushing and 2 TDs.

No back has been better this year than Buena's Jamal Womble. In their loss to Salpointe, he had 173 yards and 2 TDs on just 11 carries.

Ricky Solomon from Sahuaro put in work against Flowing Wells. He rushed for 205 yards and 2 scores.

Hamilton junior WR Drew Terrell had 6 catches for 127 yards and 2 TDs against Mesquite.

Have to like what the Red Mountain defense did against Mt. View always good ground game. They held them to 44 rushing yards.

Apache Junction DE Jeremy Loya had 5 sacks against Cactus Shadows.

Mingus' DB Tim Austill took an INT and a kick off to the house.

Wickenburg put up 41 points in the 1st quarter alone in their 65-0 win over South Ridge.
