Our last regular season edition of Friday Night Phenoms

Friday Night Phenoms (11/4/2007)

The final week of the season. Didn't the regular season blow by us? This was do or die time for many teams. Playoff spots were at stake and region championships were up for grabs. Who stepped up on Friday night?

Player of the Week

Shadow Mountain lost to Paradise Valley but QB Richard Garcia gave a great effort. He went 17 of 24 for 226 yards and a TD. He rushed for 63 yards and 2 more scores and returned a kick-off 99 yards for his 4th score.

QBs

Tim Ruben capped off a great season with a 15 of 18 237 yard 4 TD performance against Cactus.

Highland's Jeremy Fuhst had a nice night in a losing effort to Mesquite. He was 24 of 36 for 230 yards and 4 TDs.

Mt. View has not been known for their passing game but QB Blake Decker had a big night against Dobson, going 18 of 31 for 309 yards and 2 TDs. He also added 1 rushing TD in their win.

RBs

Queen Creek's Tod Workman was the workhorse in their win over Higley for the region title. He rushed 34 times for 201 yards.

Paul Dodson has been on fore for North Canyon lately. He rushed for 235 yards and 5 TDs in their win over Chavez.

La Joya junior Jeremiah Cornist might have had the nicest season that no one has talked about. He rushed for 253 yards and 3 TDs and passed for 2 more 2 TDs.

South Mountain's Ivan Worley rushed for 228 yards and 4 TDs on just 12 carries against Carl Hayden.

You have to like what Arizona Lutheran's Jordan Burmeister did against Tonopah. He rushed for 132 yards and 2 TDs, caught a TD pas, had 2 INTs and forced a fumble.

Skyline RB Elijah McPherson rushed for 177 yards and 3 TDs against Camelback.

Two backs went head to head Friday night down south. Jamal Womble and Buena won behind his 294 yards rushing and 5 TDs. He also had 60 yards receiving. But Casa Grande's Harnish Ayora wouldn't go down without a fight as he rushed for 339 yards and 6 TDs.

Receivers

NWCC's Adam Mosbrucker had a nice season. It ended with their loss to St. Johns but he caught 13 passes for 198 yards and 2 TDs against St. Johns.

Mt. View's Brett Hardison caught 9 passes for 178 yards and 2 TDs against Dobson.

Centennial's Jarrell Barbour scored on both sides of the ball, catching a 61 yard TD pass and returning an INT 20 yards for a score against Ironwood.

Defense

Devon Kennard added 3 more sacks against Mt. Pointe. He now has 23.5 on the year. He also added a rushing TD.

Saguaro's Derek Bisgard had 2.5 sacks against Cactus and on one of them he gave Cactus QB Jake Moreno won of the hardest hits I have seen all year.

Washington junior DE Kharyee Marshall had a nice night helping the Rams clinch the region title. He had 13 tackles, 4 TFLs, 1 sack and scored a TD on offense.

I know I missed a few. Go let me hear about it on the message boards and shoot me an email at Jason@24-7football.com.
