Desert Vista v. Mt. View

#11 Desert Vista pulls another upset; beats Mt. View, headed to semifinals

Desert Vista was out to get revenge for the second week in a row. They avenged an early season loss to Chandler in the first round of the playoffs and were looking to knock off the same team that beat them in the same round of the playoffs last year.

But not if Mt. View had anything to say about it. The Toros scored first, taking advantage of Desert Vista's one and only turnover. The Toros Steve Daley intercepted Cole Pembroke at the Mountain View 45 and seven plays later Toro's running back Jake Swisher scored up the middle for an 11-yard TD. PAT good, 7-0 Mt. View

On the next kickoff, Thunder RB/WR Luke Matthews returned the kick 44 yards to the Desert Vista 48. Matthews was successful pounding the football all night. Three plays later Marcus Washington, who ripped off a 40-yard run on the first play of drive, scored on an 8-yard run to tie the game with 7:36 left in the half.

Desert Vista jumped on an opportunity that came its way on the next play. Backup tight end Hunter Grams pounced on a fumble on the kickoff at the Mountain View 28. Pembroke did the scoring honors on the sixth play of the drive from 5 yards out for a 14-7 lead with 4:51 remaining in the half.

In the second half, DV's opening drive took more than six minutes off of the clock but penalties held them from scoring. Both team's defenses were solid in the second half but DV's defense was just a little bit stingier holding the Toro's to only 33 yards in the second half.

Brock Jolly made a field goal in the fourth quarter to give DV a 17-7 lead and that will lead to be the final score of the day.
