Last week I reported that former Corona/Hamilton RB Justin Salum was leaving the Air Force Academy and he took a beating on the message boards. In Justin's defense, he had no real way to defend himself, so here is an exclusive interview with Justin and he explains why he left.
24-7Football.com: When did you get back to Arizona?
Salum: "I got back last Tuesday."
Why did you decide to transfer?
"I decided to transfer because I wasn't sure if the Air Force was going to be for me and after four months of being there, I realized that it was not and was ready to start over new."
Did you leave with any college credits or were you just in the prep school?
"I was in the prep school which means that none of my classes counted."
Do you have all of your eligibility?
"Yes, I have all of my eligibility still because it was a prep school, it didn't count for anything."
Why did you ultimately decide on Air Force? Who else did you consider?
"I chose the Air Force because they showed a lot of love and I understood the opportunity after graduation. I was also considering Fresno State and U of A."
Why leave midyear?
"I decided to leave midyear because I didnt see any point in staying there when it was all for nothing. I wanted to come home and start over new."
Who's advice did you seek out when you left?
"This decision was ALL my own. My parents really wanted to see me stay but at the same time supported me in whatever I decided to do."
What schools are you now looking at?
"Right now I am looking at any school that is interested. Of course I would love to go to U of A, ASU, or any other Pac-10 schools but I'm not going to be picky in this decision."
Any serious lookers?
"So far, we have talked to a couple of coaches. A couple of teams from the Pac and a couple from the WAC."
What are your plans for next year?
"Next year I really want to go somewhere and make a difference right away. I am just really excited for football season to roll around again!"
24-7Football.com wishes Justin the best of luck in looking for a new school. We will keep you all posted on the progress.
