Linebacker Jake Fischer from Ironwood Ridge looks to be one of the top players and prospects in the state of Arizona next year. He is getting a ton of college interest and already holds two offers.
Here is a Q & A we did with the two-time all region player.
24-7Football.com: What were your stats/honors from last season?
Fischer: "133 tackles, 53 carries for 466 yards and 5 TDs and 1 receiving TD. I was all Southern 1st team and the 5A2 Southern player of the year."
What is your official height and weight?
What is your greatest football memory?
"When we beat CDO twice in a row and beating Sunnyside."
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
"150 tackles and over 1000 yards rushing. Get deep into the playoffs."
What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve?
What area would you like to keep improving on?
"I've worked hard on trying to get my speed down in the 4.5 range and my strength. I would love to keep on improving my speed and versatility."
Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
"Big d-tackle Tyrone Williams, my other inside linebacker Ray Cottman, a couple of o-linemen Marcus Klune and Marvin Snodgrass, defensive end Chad Dietrich and corner/running back Adrian Brahler."
Name one teammate you really respect and why?
"I respect a bunch of guys the same way due to the hard work and effort they put into the offseason trying to get faster and stronger and they're even better people."
What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
"I just want to go to a team where I have a good relationship with the coaches and where I have the best opportunity to reach my maximum potential."
Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet?
"Nebraska, Arizona, Colorado, LSU, Stanford, Alabama, ASU, Cal, North Carolina, and some others. I've been offered by Arizona and Colorado and hopefully more to come."
Would you consider staying in state to play in college?
"Yes, I would definitely consider staying in state."
What would your top 5 college choices be?
"I have no clue at this point."
Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?
"Jamal Womble, Jaivario Burkes, Jovan Stevenson and Aaron Tevis because they're all versatile players and are solid D1 players."
Name one opponent who you really respect and why?
"Pinnacle, they have a lot of class, they're coached well, they have good discipline, they don't talk trash and they just have a bunch of guys that want to go out and play football."
What other sports do you play?
"I used to play basketball, now I do track."
What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?
"Bench- 310, squat- 465, power clean- 315 and 40 time- 4.63."
How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
"Hard working. Will play any position to help our team."
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
"My strengths are I know my position very well and like to hit. My weakness is sometimes I get too anxious and over run a play or I don't wait for my blocks."
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
"Bob Sanders and Brian Urlacher because they're animals on the defensive side and Adrian Peterson because he delivers hits as a running back."
Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?
"We'll still be a running team but we can pass pretty well, we're really athletic and fly to the ball on defense."
What can a college program expect from you as a player?
"I will work hard and I will leave nothing on the field."
