With two state titles under his belt, Centennial QB Scott Burgett is ready to take his skills to the next level.
He informed 24-7Football.com last night that he committed to Eastern Washington while on his official visit this weekend. We were able to catch up with Scott to hear from him exactly why he chose EWU.
"I'm pumped." Those were some of the first words out of Burgett's mouth when talking about his commitment.
He says he actually committed on Saturday. "Around 11:30, I was in the locker room with some of the recruits and coaches. Coach Baldwin called me into his office and asked how everything was going and said that they were offering a full ride. I told coach, 'I want to commit to you today.'"
Burgett started getting himself familiar with the program when the previous staff was there as he was supposed to trip then. The turnover in coaching delayed some things but Burgett knew enough to tell his parents before the visit, "If they offer, I will commit."
Some positives of the program according to Burgett, "They pass to set up the run. That really intrigued me. They run the no huddle, let the quarterbacks check and I will get to throw the ball thirty times a game instead of the fifteen I do in high school."
The success of former QB Eric Meyer was also a plus to Scott, "He was invited to the NFL combine and it shows that there is a chance to get to the next level."
Burgett says that the coaching staff has told him that he will red-shirt next year. "I have the possibility of being third string but I iwll definitely red-shirt and they say I will be given the chance to compete after that."
Burgett says he is undecided of a major but is thinking about business or communications. Qualifying will not be an issue as he is a great student.
One of the most successful QBs in recent Arizona history, Burgett has only lost one game over the past two seasons. As a senior he passed for 2017 yards and had a TD-INT ratio of 26-10. He also added 8 scores rushing.
