Lieb Makes College Choice

Brophy WR Sean Lieb announces his college decision. brings you the details...

Holding offers from multiple division-two programs, Brophy WR Sean Lieb has decided against signing with a D2 school and will pursue his dream of playing division-one football and will walk-on at Arizona State.

Lieb gives the details.

24-7: When did you decide you were going to walk-on at ASU?
Lieb: "I made up my mind this past weekend after 5-6 weeks of tough choices. This has not been an easy process but it was nice to be wanted by so many schools."

Lieb held offers from division-two programs Adams State, Truman State, Western New Mexico and Upper Iowa amongst others and was invited to walk-on at Colorado and San Diego State as well

What made you decide to walk on at ASU versus all of the D2 scholarship offers and D1 walk ons you had?
"I believed I had the ability to play at a D1 school. In addition, my Brophy coach, Scooter Molander also believed I had D1 ability. The D2 schools were located in small towns and I did not feel comfortable with the surrounding areas. I also felt that ASU offered more to help develop my career choices after I finish playing football."

What were your final options as far as playing college football?
"I was asked to be a preferred walk on at San Diego State, University of San Diego and the University of Colorado, who I talked to a few times. I also considered Glendale Community College (where former Devils Chris McKenzie and Dale Robinson are from as well as current players Max Tabach and Morris Wooten). I had around 15 D2/D3 offers from all over the country. ASU just appealed to be the best fit for me."

What was it about ASU that made you pick them?
"First of all Coach Cozzetto and Coach Yarber made me feel like I was wanted. Coach Yarber played in the NFL and has coached some of the best receivers who have played football. There would only be 20 players on the team that were not on scholarship and how could you not get excited about a top ten team in the country wanting you? ASU has an excellent academic program and I really liked the campus and surrounding area. Finally, I felt that I would learn a lot from this coaching staff and they would help me grow as a D1 student/athlete."

Have the coaches talked about you possibly earning a scholarship?
"They told me that I would be on the scout team the first year and would redshirt, which happens to many freshman. They said if I do well in my redshirt year that I have an excellent chance to get a scholarship. I like that challenge to prove to them that I should to be starting in my sophomore year."

What do you want to major in?
"I want to major in Biology or Business."

Lieb had a great senior season despite missing some times with an injury. He hlped Brophy to the 5A1 state title behind 56 grabs for 848 yards and 16 scores.
