Arizona RB Lands First Offer

Apache Junction RB Shane McCullen received his first offer. 24-7Football.com has the exclusive details here.

Army did a great job of recruiting Arizona last year and it looks like they intend to repeat the success in 2009.

Last year the Cadets landed Saguaro DE Derek Bisgard, Cactus TE Corey Myers and Shadow Mountain LB Tyler Juede and 24-7Football.com has learned that they have extended an offer to Apache Junction RB Shane McCullen.

Shane tells us in an exclusive interview, "I got a letter in the mail today and called them and they offered me on the phone. Coach Adam Waugh offered and he said they were offering me right now and that they are recruiting me hard and will be out to see me in the spring."

McCullen (6-2 190) has been a great back, rushing for over 3,400 yards in his varsity career. With his size and speed, many are recruiting him as an athlete or as a safety but McCullen says Waugh told him they could see him playing running back but with his size, speed and athleticism, they could find a spot for him.

McCullen had been in a little contact with Army but says the offer was unexpected.

His reaction, "I am very happy. I had thought of Army before. The commitment doesn't scare me, I had thought about them and serving before."

Other schools that have been in contact with McCullen have been Arizona State, Colorado, UTEP, UNLV and Oregon State. In fact, McCullen and Apache Junction head coach Rich Milligan will be heading to Boulder to visit CU for junior day next weekend.

"I am really excited about them (CU), they are one of my favorite schools."

He says he has been talking with Coach Cabral and Nolan at CU and already has a relationship with Nolan. Nolan is from the Phoenix area and McCullen attended football camps he was coaching at when he was in middle school.

Can Shane see an offer from CU in the future? "I am not sure about thenm offering but I hope so."

Shane has already registered for the Under Armour/Scout.com Phoenix Combine on May 24th.
