"It is not always easy getting noticed when you play your high school ball in Lake Havasu City, Arizona but when you put up the numbers that Brent Michaels did last year for the Knights, someone is bound to notice."
I wrote that over one month ago when I posted junior highlights of havasu RB Brent Michaels. Well someone took notice of Michaels' skill and offered him a scholarship.
Michaels called 24-7Football.com this afternoon and informed us that Air Force extended an offer last night.
"Coach Theissen called the house phone last night and it was odd that we answered it because we usually don't. He told me that he liked what he saw and offered me a scholarship," Michaels comments.
Some had speculated as to what position Michaels would play but he says that Air Force offered him as a running back. Michaels (6-0 225) put up outstanding numbers as a junior. He rushed for 1,939 yards and 25 scores on 214 carries including an all-time Arizona single game record of 470 yards against Avondale Agua Fria.
Michaels adds that the offer was a surprise. "I had not been talking ot them or gotten any letters or anything."
With the offer being so new, Brent says that he has not researched the Falcons' program much and only knows what Theissen told him last night. "He told me that you come out as an officer and you have a five year commitment after," Michaels says. "But that really won't effect me," he adds.
Michaels has a brother currently serving in the USAF.
Others schools that have shown interest have been Montana State, Boise State, Colorado State and Colorado.
Brent is scheduled to run in the 4A1 state track meet this week. He qualified in the 100 meters with a personal best time of 11.12. He and his Havasu teammates also qualified in the 4x100.
Watch him here in video brought to you by Scout.com (#25).
Michaels will be particpating in the Under Armour/Scout.com Phoenix Combine on May 24th.
