Apollo v. Mingus

Mingus beats Apollo on Cox 7's game of the week. 24-7 brings you a recap of the game.

Apollo opened up the game with a 70 yard TD run by RB Vann Hunt to take the early lead and it looked like they would go up two scores early in the 1st when RB Archi Mendivil scored on a long touchdown of his own. But a penalty negated the TD and the Hawks punted it away.

Near the end of the first quarter Apollo fumbled, the first of the five they would have on the night, and gave Mingus the ball at the 32 yard line. Marauder QB Tony Vocca got Mingus on the board when he got it from 1 yard out on 4th and 1. Score teid at 7-7 at the end of one. This is also how the half ended as both teams exchanged turnovers late in the 2nd, Apollo another fumble and Vocca was picked off by DJ Adrian.

Both teams exchanged punts to open the 2nd half and a bad Apollo punt gave Mingus the ball on the plus side of the 50. A pass interference call and 12 yard Robert Ortiz run set up Vocca's second score of the night when he got in from 11 yards out. Score 14-7 Mingus.

Apollo was never able to muster up much because every time they got in scoring position they fumbled. They fumbled three more times in this half and the last led to Vocca's third score of the night and the nail in the coffin.

Final- Mingus 21  Apollo 7

Apollo has some decent athletes. Their QB has a nice arm and they have two solid backs in Mendivil and Vann Hunt but you can never win when you have that many turnovers.

Mingus does not have quite the same speed and size as they did last year. Vocca was the best player on the field tonight and they were able to take advantage of his skills, keeping the ball in his hands nost of the time.

Game Ball

Mingus QB Tony Vocca for scoring three TDs and the Mingus defense for forcing five turnovers.
