Sure we had a couple of "preseason" games but football in Arizona completely kicked off this weekend as every team now has a game under their belt. Every year in our Friday Night Phenoms article we try and highlight the top performances of the week. This year will be no different. So after the looonngggg offseason, here is 24-7's first edition of Friday Night Phenoms.
Player of the Week
Shadow Mountain RB Giancarlo Dale had 252 yards on just 20 carries with 3 rushing TDs versus Flagstaff. He also took a kickoff back to the house for a 4th score.
*Millennium junior QB Mike Massey was 8 of 11 for 240 yards and 1 TD on the ground and 1 in the air as he helped the Tigers beat Buckeye in his first varsity start.
*Saguaro QB Cole Rarrick went 7/9 for 179 yards and 2 scores while adding roughly 100 yards rushing.
*Chaparral's Spencer Stone went 13/23 for 225 yards and 2 scores including the game winner to Brandon Martin as time expired to help the Firebirds beat Cienega.
*Chandler QB Kevin Yount went 15 of 21 for 211 yards and 4 scores as Chandler beat up on Ironwood.
*Alchesay's Stephone Hannah rushed for 244 yards and 5 scores in their win over San Carlos.
*Cactus' Mike Brown went well over 100 yards and had 3 scores versus Washington.
*Tempe High RB John Bautch had 9 carries for 112 yards and 3 scores in their win over Moon Valley. He also added 1 score receiving.
*Beau Burton got off to a great start for Saguaro. He had 3 TD and well over 200 yards.
*Jamal Miles form Peoria had 232 yards on 23 carries and 4 scores in the Panthers win over T-Bird.
*North wideout Adam Mendoza had 3 TD receptions.
*Cactus Shadows TE Danny Trittler had 10 catches for 123 yards and 2 TDs against Higley.
*Yuma Catholic wideout Roderick Ford caught 4 passes for 14 yards, three of which were for scores.
*Gotta give props to the Hamilton D for blanking an always good Brophy team.
*Cactus DB Kandon Thomas returned not one but two interceptions for scores. He combined for 182 return yards.
*Pinnacle DE Andrew Hurley had 4.5 sacks in Pinnacle's loss to Ironwood Ridge. The Ridge defense gave up just 56 yards in that game in another outstanding effort.
*In a loss to Corona, Red Mountain's Derek Molina returned a punt AND a kickoff for scores.
*Arcadia's Joey Artgue returned two kickoffs for scores against Dysart.
