Shadow Mountain v. Millennium

Millennium overcomes turnovers and penalties to beat Shadow Mountain on Cox 7 Thursday night.

Shadow Mountain got out to ean early 7-0 lead and tried to make it 10-0 but missed a field goal early in the 2nd to keep Millennium within one score. Squandered opportunities like this would haunt Shadow Mountain all night.

Again Shadow was driving but Millennium junior safety picked off a pass in the endzone and returned it to the 6 yard line. Athletic play by Flowers but kneeling the ball would have given the Tigers better field position. It did not seem to matter as Flowers took a run 40 yards to the left and then junior QB Mike Massey hooked up with Demitrius Wilson for a 54 yards TD. Score now tied at 7 each.

Late in the 2nd, Millennium fumbled the ball, their third turnover of the half, and it was recovered by Shadow. They marched it down into field  goal position with some nice runs by Giancarlo Dale, who amassed 137 yards in the first half. A fumble twarted their hopes of a score. Score at half  7-7.

Millennium opened the half up with another turnover, giving Shadow the ball at the 27. yet again, they were not able to capitalize and turned the ball over on downs. Massey quickly found Wilson for two more long passes that got them inside the 5 and Herman Cox punched it in. Score after the PAT 14-7 Millennium.

On Shadow's next drive, Marquis Flowers sacked the QB and on 4th down, SM snapped the ball over the punter's head and the ball was kciked out of the endzone for a safety. Score was 16-7 Millennium late in the third.

Neither team put any points on the board in the 4th. Flowers forced and recovered a fumble and then the Millennium O went on a 7 minute drive that killed most of the time left in the game.

Final Millennium 16 Shadow Mountain 7

Shadow Mountain surprised some people tonight. Giancarlo Dale played very tough, rushing for nearly 200 yards. But Shadow was never able to capitalize on Millennium's mistakes. The Tigers had 110 yards in penalties and four turnovers, which they will not be able to do in the tough West Valley Region.

Give credit to the Millennium defense for bending but not breaking and playing shutout football for three quarters. The Shadow offense did not complete a pass until four seconds were left in the game. They are ging to have to develop a pass game to compete.

Game Balls

Millennium WR Demetrius Wilson had a very nice night, going for over 100 yards and a score.

Juniors Mike Massey and Marquis Flowers were sharp. Massey was very efficient at QB and Flowers showed why he is my pick for the top junior in the state. He was good in pass and run defense and went for nearly 100 yards rushing.

Giancarlo Dale was great for Shadow Mountain. He was their workhorse rushing for nearly 200 yards on almost 40 carries.
