CDO v. McClintock

CDO scores 14 in 1st and 9 in 4th to put away a feisty McClintcok team

CDO jumped out to a fast start as sophomore sensation RB Kadeem Carey took the opening kickoff to the house. It was called back for holding but the Dorados but together 11 play 83 yard drive that was capped off by a 2 yard Griffin Ronstadt run.

McClintock moved the ball well using RB Robert Walker but their drive stalled and it only took CDO three plays to score again as QB Doug Steele hit Ronstadt on a 54 yard screen to make it 14-0.

Again McClintock had a nice drive going but the CDO defense stepped up again, sacking QB Eric Urry which forced a fumble and was recovered by the Dorados.

Once again it took three plays for CDO to score. On a halfback pass, Carey hit Kevin Longoria from 34 yards out to make it 21-0 into the second quarter.

It looked as though the route was on, as CDO forced a three and out but on the punt, a CDO player touched the ball as it was bouncing on the ground and it was recovered by the Chargers. They took advantage using the running of Walker and the passing of Urry who was 2 of 2 for 26 yards on the drive and added McClintock's first score on a QB sneak. 21-7.

With new found life, McClintock QB Urry, who doubles as their safety, came up huge on their next defensive possession. He brought the hammer on CDO receiver Joey Webb, forced a fumble which bounced into the air and was intercepted by Ricky Astrain at the CDO 31.

A 10 yard Walker run and a pass interference call moved the ball inside the 5 and big Hayden Tippett pounded it in from two yards out to get McClintock within one score with just under a minute to play.

Most of the crowd, including myself,  figured CDO would just take a knee and head into halftime with their lead but Pat Nugent had other things in mind. He got the ball in the hands of Carey on a draw play and watched the sophomore rumble 59 yards and into scoring position. A facemask penalty put CDO on the 4 yard line and Steele got in from 2 yards out to end the half with CDO up 28-14 on McClintock.

McClintock had several opportunities to stay in this game but never got closer than the halftime score. They stalled on their opening drive after marching and getting in scoring position and had some bad luck when after a snap went over Steele's head and deep into CDO territory. CDO recovered but it looked like the Chargers would get great field position but CDO punter Nick Marshall bombed a 75 yard punt that pinned McClintock at their own 6 yard line!

McClintock would end up snapping the ball over their punter's head on this possession and kicked the ball out of the back of the endzone for a safety. A nice return on the free kick  by Cameron Griffin put CDO at the 20 yard line and it took just one play for Carey to put the nail in the coffin when he raced 20 yards to paydirt.

Final 37-14 CDO over McClintock

This game was closer then the final shows. CDO was the better team but McClintock had their chances to win. If they don't allow the big draw at the end of the 1st half and punch the ball in on their opening possession of the 2nd half, we are talking a whole new ball game.

Game Ball

I will go with sophomore Kadeem Carey. He was the best player on the field tonight and showed it despite having the kick return called back. He still added a passing TD and a late score to put the game away.
