I like to do this every year, post a mid-season all-state team. Here is the 2008 version. Stats were not the end all be all for selection to this team, but do play a big factor.
QB- Matt Inman- Yuma Catholic- Has thrown for 1644 yards and has an amazing TD-INT ratio of 22-1. Also has rushed for 318 yards and scored 6 TDs on the ground.
Others: Spencer Stone- Chaparral, Hayden Eager- Round Valley
RB- Mike Brown- Cactus- After seeing him live, I am thoroughly convinced there is not a better back in the state.
RB- Beau Burton- Saguaro- Averaging over 12 yards per carry and has 14 TDs already.
Others: John Hughes- Centennial, Jamal Miles- Peoria, Shad Bride- St. Johns, Andy Garcia- Nogales, Jeremiah Cornist- La Joya, Dwayne Garrett- Chaparral
WR- Markus Wheaton- Chandler- His stats are not the greatest but this kid is a player.
WR- Trevor Johnson- Washington- Currently leads the state in receiving yards with 703 yards and 9 TDs.
Others: C.J. Westbrooks- Moon Valley, J.J. Holliday- Santa Rita, Chris Heldore- Desert Ridge
TE- Tyler Williams- Chaparral- Has 24 catches for 462 yards and 5 TDs.
Others: Adam Mosbrucker- NWCC, A.J. Steimel- Brophy
OL- Taylor Lewan- Chaparral- He has played as well as anybody in the state thus far, regardless of position.
OL- Kody Koebensky- Saguaro- Moved inside to guard from tackle and has not missed a beat.
OL- Chris Putton- Cactus- Has locked down opponents from his left tackle spot.
OL- Doug Zismann- Shadow Mountain- Arizona's top center prospect.
OL- Fred Thornton- South Mountain- Big and physical player that is getting plenty of D1 looks for his stellar play.
Others: Nick Rowland- Centennial
DL- Craig Roh- Chaparral- Has 8.5 sacks despite being double teamed.
DL- Jimmie Lewis- Centennial- His game versus Desert Vista was one of the best performances I have seen this year.
DL- Trent Murphy- Brophy- Started the year off right versus Gorman and hasn't stopped since.
DL- Terry Williams- Westview- Squatty DE has recorded 7 sacks already.
Others: Devon Kennard- Desert Vista, Danny Mullarkey- Desert Vista, Mike Tree- Brophy, Rusty Fernando- Apache Junction, Justin Jungblut- Saguaro, Andrew Hurley- Pinnacle
LB- Matt Padilla- Brophy- If this kid was taller, he would have his pick of schools.
LB- Dylan Flannery- Basha- Very active and plays with great instincts and toughness.
LB- Jack Zellner- Mingus- Over 50 tackles and 4.5 sacks for the Marauders.
Others: Ryan Holmes- Chaparral, Mike Chocholousek- Mt. Ridge, Deshawn Briggs- Boulder Creek, Rueben Robinson- Hamilton, Anthony Jones- Hamilton, Rodney Reagans- Chandler, Reggie Umuolo- Centennial, Jake Fischer- Ironwood Ridge
DB- Ryan Milus- Hamilton- As solid a DB as you will find.
DB- Jeremy Sawyer- Peoria- As impressive as I have seen this year. Kid can run and is physical.
DB- Marquis Flowers- Millennium- My pick for the top prospect in 2010, Flowers is having a great year for the Tigers.
DB- Denton Zander- Dobson- Has 7 picks already.
Others: Jeremy Morris- Chandler, Bryce Lamb- Chandler, Chris Jamison- Desert Ridge
K- Danny Compton- Paradise Valley- You will not convince me that there is a better kicker in the state.
P- Jordan Frost- Mt. View- Averaging over 46 yards per punt.
All-Purpose- Adam Hall- Palo Verde- Great receiver, safety and return man. Has scored in every way except kicking and a safety.
Return- Erik Brown- Saguaro- Hurdling that defender is one of the best plays I have seen this year.
Others: Brady Wager (AP)- Globe, Andy Wilder (AP)- Notre Dame, Taylor Malenfant (R)- Notre Dame, Jared Smith (K)- Skyline, Nick Marshall (K/P)- CDO, Stacey Berg (P)- Winslow, Derek Molina (R)- Red Mountain
