Seton Catholic v. Arcadia

Arcadia remains unbeaten in high scoring game against Seton.

Pre-game Notes: Arcadia first year Head Coach Jim Ellison finds his Titans team undefeated at 5-0. The combined record of their first five opponents is 7-19, so the jury is out on how good Arcadia can be. QB Colby Kirkegaard, a junior, leads the offense with his 57% pass completion and has a nice target in WR David Carroll, who many expect to be a Division 1 player next year.  Seton came from behind last week against Desert Edge to up their record to 5-1. QB Justin Sieczkowski has thrown for 1600 yards and has a strong arm. RB Kyle Johnson provides some run support for the Sentinels.

Recap: The second time the Titans touch the ball RB Jake Hirschi takes the counter play 42 yards and its 7-0 Arcadia. Seton responds with a 10 play drive, helped out with two pass interference calls, and RB Kyle Johnson runs 20 yards for the touchdown to tie the game. Colby Kirkegaard throws a nice long 44-yard touchdown pass to TE Kevin Cosgrove for their second score of the game. Seton WR Kenny Whisenhunt starts the Sentinel drive with a 40 yard kickoff return and placed the Sentinels in position to have RB Kyle Johnson score again and at the end of the first quarter its tied up at 14-14.

Seton comes up with an interception and its sets up a 53 yard pass to WR Trevor Gieisner for the go ahead score. A one yard pass to RB Joey Artigue scores the touchdown for the Titans but the missed extra point makes the score Seton 21, Arcadia 20. The last score of the half see Seton's WR Joey Harrington taking a pass from 15 yards in for the score and at the half its Seton 28 Arcadia 20.

The Seton homecoming crowd sees the Titans continuing their scoring ways with a 15 yard run by RB Pat Schrimsher but the two point conversion fails and Arcadia is still behind 28-26.  WR Kenny Whisenhunt has a second long kickoff return this time a 61 yarder and it helps Seton score with WR Troy Temple taking a pass into the end zone for the Sentinels who increase their lead 35-26. That score marks the end of any more scoring for Seton as Arcadia takes control of the line of scrimmage with a nice running game. WR David Carroll runs the kickoff 75 yards as he is tripped up by a Sentinel to keep him from scoring. Three plays later RB Pat Schrimsher pounds it in from the two and now trail Seton 35-33. Arcadia keeps its fireworks alive with two more scores with Schrimsher and Kirkegaard scoring on short runs to have the Titans pull away with the victory. The fans are treated to a great offensive shootout and the final score is Arcadia 47, Seton 35.

Bottom line:  Defensive play was nowhere to be found this night as the offenses just kept scoring. Fans saw some good quarterback play from two good quarterbacks. Titan QB Colby Kirkegaard showed some good leadership skills in taking control of the offense and Seton QB Justin Sieczkowski has good arm strength and can zip the pass into some tight spots. He keeps improving, as people need to remember he did not play last year. The Titan ground game in the second half kept the ball away from Seton to seal this victory.

Gameball:  Two Titans share the game ball. QB Colby Kirkegaard was 8 of 19 for 197 yards, threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for 1 more. RB Pat Schrimsher took control in the 2nd half as he scored 3 touchdowns and rushed for 140 yards on 23 attempts. Some good numbers that will make their teammates feel pretty good.

Up Next: Arcadia (6-0) travels to Queen Creek. Seton (5-2) plays host to Higley.
