Higley v. Seton Catholic

Higley rolls in East Sky Region play over Seton Catholic

Pre-game Notes:  This 4A East Sky battle has Higley (4-2  0-1) going against their sixth team that runs the spread offense. Coach Jim Beall feels confident that his defensive secondary will continue to do a good job against these passing offenses. The Knights have a strong running game behind leading rusher senior Chris Campbell who leads the team in rushing with 800 yards and 7 touchdowns. Coach Beall's son senior QB J.P. Beall is solid behind center and makes few mistakes. Seton comes off a tough loss in a high scoring game against Arcadia (47-35). Sentinel Coach Rex Bowser knows his team can't stop their leading rusher but he needs them to contain him. There is initial hope that Seton can score some points like last week.

Recap:  Early in the first quarter Seton turns the ball over on downs as Higley takes over at their own 39. The third play sees QB J.P.Beall hit TE R.J. Arriaga for a 46 yard touchdown pass at its 7-0 Higley. The next time the Knights touch the ball their ground game takes them on a 8 play 71 yard drive with J.P.Beall scoring from 3 yards out but the extra point is blocked and Higley leads 13-0.  Seton QB Justin Sieczkowski spent the entire night running for his life as the line could not give him enough time to throw. Another stop by Higley gave them the ball at their own 20 and ran 8 straight running plays capped off with RB Chris Campbell scoring from 5 yards out and the 2 point conversion makes it Higley 21, Seton 0.

The second half begins with Seton driving the ball deep into Higley territory but the drive stalls and kicker Michael Chavez misses a 34 yard field goal which deflates Seton. The fourth quarter sees Higley score with QB J.P. Beall scoring on a keeper, RB Chris Campbell breaks open on a 36 yard run for a score and RB Jace Smith runs a long 53 yards as Higley sees the scoreboard reading 41-0 Higley. Seton avoids the shutout with QB Justin Sieczkowski throwing a 22 yard pass to Trevor Glesiner making the final score Higley 41, Seton 7.

Bottom line:  Seton's offense did not show up tonight. With such good numbers for the year one had hoped for more results in this important region game. Higley controlled the line of scrimmage with an effective running game. The pride of the defense is the secondary, which played well against another high-powered offense. Higley wamts a solid effort from its players and playing mistake free. This will make other 4A East Sky teams take notice in playing the Knights.

Game ball:  Unofficial stats had RB Chris Campbell running for 135 yards on 19 carries with 2 touchdowns. QB J.P. Beall threw 20 completions on 33 attempts for 272 yards, ran for 2 touchdowns and threw for 1 more.  These two players earned the game balls tonight.

Up Next:  Higley (5-2  2-0) travels to play against Arcadia.

Seton (5-3  0-2) heads up the road to Scottsdale to battle unbeaten Coronado.
