Friday Night Phenoms

Another broken rushing record earns player of the week honors in this week's Phenoms list.

Player of the Week

*Miami RB Chris Marin rushed for 372 yards against Superior, a 2A rushing record.




*Mingus dual-threat QB Tony Vocca passed for 127 yards and 3 TDs and rushed for 96 yards and 2 more scores against Coconino.

*Mt. Ridge's Kevin Yost totaled 300 yards of offense and 3 TDs against St. Marys.

*Catalina's QB Dan McIver rushed for 172 yards and a score, passed for 153 yards and a TD and had a punt and kick return for two more TDs.

*Chandler junior Kyle Yount passed for 258 yards and 4 TDs in their OT win over Gilbert.

*In a losing effort, Seton QB Justin Sieczkowski passed for 298 yards and 5 TDs against Queen Creek.

*Queen Creek's Richie Edwards went 13 of 17 for 217 yards and 2 TDs against Seton. He also had 1 rushing TD.


*Safford's Justin Smith makes the list for the first time after rushing for 133 yards, passing for 135 and accounting for 3 TDs in their win over Empire.


*Westview's Jordan Grandon had 4 rushing TDs.


Running Backs


*Salpointe's Christian Ramirez had another strong showing, carrying the ball 11 times for 173 yards and 5 TDs against Buena.

*Amphi RB Chris Johnson rushed for 249 yards and 2 scores in their win over Sahuarita.

*Marcos RB Ramon Abreu had just 5 carries against Skyline but he scored on 3 of them, amassing 130 yards rushing and had an INT on defense.


*Jamal Miles had a nice night against Agua Fria, rushing for 231 yards and 6 TDs.

*O'Shea Primus helped keep Tempe's playoff hopes alive by rushing for 189 yards and 3 TDs in the Buffs win over Arcadia.

*Dwayne Garrett from Chaparral had 215 yards rushing and 3 TDs in their win over Paradise Valley.

*Liberty RB Keegan Whipkey hit paydirt 6 times versus Verrado.

*Naje Singleton from Phoenix Christian rushed for 221 yards.



*Adam Hall is making a strong case to be named the state's player of the year. He had 174 yards rushing, 52 yards in the air, 3 total TDs and made 2 INTs against Santa Rita.


*Desert Ridge's Chris Jamison makes the list again. This week he had 4 TDs and picked off 2 passes against Horizon. Teammate Chris Jamison had 2 INTs and a score of his own in the same game.


*Hamilton's Drew Terrell had 6 catches for 107 yards against Mesquite.

*Mingus' Robert Ortiz had 4 catches for 118 yards and 2 TDs against Coconino.


*Salpointe WR Mike Descisciolo had 4 grabs for 137 yards and a TD on Friday.


*Gilbert's Jesse Brantley caught 8 passes for 173 yards and a score in their tough loss to Chandler.



*Apache Junction's Rusty Fernando had 4 sacks against Cactus Shadows.


*Mt. Ridge LB Mike Chocholusek had 2 INTs against St. Mary's, one of which he returned for a TD.
