Greenway 35 Tempe 13
This game featured two teams that are well coached and featured players that play hard. Greenway has had a very impressive season and Tempe returns to the playoffs. Both head coaches, Mike Brown from Greenway and John Rodriguez of Tempe are well respected around the state.
The game got off with a bang as Greenway opened up the game with an onside kick that they recovered and got the ball with great field position. But, the Tempe defense regrouped and held, getting the ball back. However, Tempe QB Zach Guizer was intercepted by Sajed Shubair who rumbled 45 yards the other direction and into the end zone giving Greenway an early lead, the kick after failed score after the first quarter Greenway 6 Tempe 0.
The second quarter saw the Greenway offensive line begin to wear down the Tempe front. Greenway was able to run the football with RB's Marshall Galbraith and Chase Harpole. QB Greg Walton was able to keep the Tempe defense off balance with his ability to both throw it and run with it. In the second quarter Greenway scored twice a 5 yard run by Harpole and a 1 yard run by Walton. Score Greenway 21 Tempe 0 at half.
When the teams came out in the second half, Tempe had some new life. They kicked off and held Greenway to a three and out, getting the ball deep in their own territory. QB Zach Guizer hooked up with speedy WR O'Shea Primous on a 85 yard touchdown strike, that allowed Primous to really show off his speed. The point after by Richard Cortez was good score Greenway 21 Tempe 7.
It looked as though Tempe was going to make a run at it, but Greenway was able to answer back late in the 3rd with a shovel pass from Walton to Corbin Jones who went 48 yards for another Greenway touchdown, putting them out in front for good.
Greenway 35 Tempe 13.
Greenway just had too many players for Tempe tonight. Walton, Harpole and Galbraith were just too much for the Buffalo's to run with. It looked like Tempe just simply wore down late in the 2nd half and at the end of the game. Several Tempe players were going both ways and never came off the field.
On the night Marshall Galbraith had 128 yards rushing on just 10 carries and QB Greg Walton completed 8 of 15 passes for 156 yards.
You have to give credit to the Tempe program. Just a few years ago they struggled bad against nearly every team they played. But it seems that they have bought into whatever it is that coach Rodriguez is selling. They played hard and will be back in the playoffs again.
Greenway is talented and does a great job of getting the ball to their three playmakers and letting them do their thing. Coach Brown does a great job of preparing each week and will have his team ready to go in round 2. This team runs the ball effectively and is a real dangerous team in the playoffs.
Greg Walton – The 5'11 165 senior is a very good athlete. He runs well and is real football savvy, I don't think he's a QB at the next level but I do think he's athletic enough to warrant a JC look maybe as a slot receiver.
Chase Harpole – 5'11 160 junior is shifty in the open field and runs very hard with the ball. I think he has a shot to be a safety prospect next season. Probably a JUCO kind of kid that could develop in the future.
Marshall Galbraith – 5'8 155 junior is another good athlete especially in space. I think he will be one of the better players in their region next season. His size will hurt his college chances but he's a good football player. Could be a JUCO prospect if he puts on good weight.
Ryan Harper – 6'2 170 TE/OLB, probably the best prospect for the Demons. Okay as a tight end but probably better suited to play as an OLB in college. Can run for his size, could be a four year type of prospect if he puts on weight. Will probably end up being a JUCO type, but could develop.
Zach Guizer – 5'10 180 QB/Safety. Guizer is a good football player, he's not a QB at the next level but could be a JUCO safety. He has good hips and plays with decent leverage.
John Bautch – 5'9 165 LB, very productive player and may actually be the best player on the team right now. His size will limit his options, not sure how fast he is, but he might get a shot to play safety at a JUCO. He has pretty good instincts.
O'Shea Primous – 5'8 160 WR. This kid will be one to keep an eye on next season for the Buffalos. He can flat out fly, the touchdown pass he caught really showed his speed. He also had several nice runs. Size will hurt him, but he's a JUCO prospect at the very least. Should be the Buffalos main weapon next season.
