Hughes Picks His Home

Breaking News: Centennial's John Hughes makes his college commitment

Southern Illinois has done a great job recruiting in Arizona. Last year they landed Keith Anglin from Desert Vista and Josh Terry from Phoenix Christian. This year they have landed three players, Derrick Nsubuga from Chaparral and Rodney Reagans from Chandler High. The third, 24-7Football.com has confirmed, is RB/DB/Return man John Hughes from Peoria (Az.) Centennial.

Hughes tells us, "I committed to SIU because when I visited there and checked out the people, players and education, I really liked it. Everyone was really good to me and were real with me."

He adds, "It felt like I was home so really the main thing was that I was realy comfrtable there."

In helping the Coyotes to their third straight 5A2 state title, Hughes (5-5 170) rushed for 1,600 yards and 31 TDs on 188 carries, caught 19 passes for 298 yards and 4 more scores. On defense he registered 42 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 INTs.

To top that off, Hughes returned 2 kickoffs to the house.

He also had an offer from Northern Arizona.
