It has been a few years since Greenway High in Phoenix has had a D1 prospect, the last being Richie Brockel (Boise State) and Kenton Thomas (Utah) but Coach Brown returns one Arizona's top two-way players and after having a very successful junior season, S/WR Ryan Harper is getting plenty of college interest. In fact, Harper tells us that he now holds two division-one offers.
Last season Harper was a 1st team all-region pick on both sides of the ball for the Demons catching 39 passes for 731 yards and 5 TDs as a wide receiver and recording 45 tackles and 8 INTs from his linebacker spot. at 6-2 185, Harper projects as either a safety or wideout at the next level and the first school that offered doesn't care which position he plays. "Air Force offered me about three days ago," Harper states. "They sent a written letter saying they wanted to offer me a full ride as a WR or SS and that they didn't care which one I wanted because they would find a spot for me."
1AA Northern Arizona became the second program to offer Harper, "NAU offered a full ride over the phone today," he says.
Other programs showing interest include, "San Diego State, New Mexico State, Penn and Boise State have called and seemed interested. Boise seemed really interested in me as an OLB."
Prior to the football interest Ryan was possibly looking to play baseball at the next level but now he may have to re-think his plan, "This is pretty exciting. I was hoping I was going to be a D1 baseball player but we'll see now."
