New Region

New Fiesta Region - or as we all refer to it, the SEC of AZ.

Thoughts on New Region

All in all, you have to play someone, but you need to go back 12 years to find someone outside of the Fiesta Region who won the State title. The reality of it all is we are historically the weak link, our only championship was in 1950. But, if we can stay healthy, we feel that we can compete in this region. Staying healthy will be paramount in order to make a run for the playoffs.

# of Starters Returning

We have 4 starters coming back on each side of the ball, but we had quite a few players get playing time last year, coupled w/our JV's going 9-0. We have some talent and we have the best depth that we have had since I have been here.

Focus on Spring Ball

Spring Ball was productive, but we have so many players involved in track that we don't get very much time with all of our guys.  Now, this is a good problem we have very good team speed. Summer 7 on 7, again it was a good summer, we accomplished most of our goals for the summer.  We had the most players ever involved in summer weights. And conditioning, and we took 100 players to camp in Snowflake (the most ever).

Surprise Player that Emerged out of Spring/ 7 on

We have had a couple of move ins this Spring and Summer, who have been a pleasant surprise.  What has been most rewarding is how much progress some of our linemen have made since their freshmen year. This senior class has worked harder (collectively) than any in recent memory, they have pushed our program to being in the best shape we have ever been in on Aug. 1.

JV player from last year expected to make an

Corey Niass a 6'4 - 270 lb. OL will be starting for us, and his extra work all Spring of coming in for extra lifting twice a week at 6 AM is paying off.

Goals for 2009

The same for every year - beat Hamilton, win the region, make the playoffs and win the State Championship.  Obviously, the last one is the most important.  We want to make our fans proud of how hard and how well we compete during the course of our season.  I do believe that we may truly have the most difficult schedule in the state.

Kellis- head coach Jason Golden
