Desert Edge v. Copper Canyon

Desert Edge rallies, scores twice in 2nd half to get past Copper Canyon 19-15

Desert Edge forced a Copper Canyon punt on their first possesion and marched right down the field and scored on a 54 yard Tanner Lung to Shane Simmons pass, a play that would later haunt Copper Canyon. 7-0 DE.

Teams that haven't had a lot of success in the past tend to fold when they get down, so credit Copper Canyon for being resiliant and matching the Scorpion's TD. 20 yard runs by Tiandre Hunter and Michael Grubbs set up a Steve Plasencio to Tim Mayomi scoring pass. 7-7 after 1.

Copper Canyon took the lead late in the 2nd after two pass interference calls put them on the goalline. Johnny Allen scored for a few yards out and Plasencio added the two point conversion that gave CC a 15-7 lead at the half.

DE started the 2nd half like they did the first, driving the field and scoring. A crucial Lung scramble on 4th and 3 set up a 19 yard Jacob Shaffer score. The two point try was no good. 15-13 CC.

The rest of the second half saw both teams flirt with good field position but neither capitalizing until Desert Edge blocked a punt and a play later Lung hit Simmons on the exact same pass play as their first hook up to put the Scorpions on top for good 19-15.

Both of these teams are young and with new coaches, neither will challenge for playoff spots but the important thing is they are getting better and are playing competitive football. Desert Edge played Agua Fria tough in week 1 and Copper Canyon had Moon Valley on the ropes last week. Both are taking steps forward.
