Desert Mountain built a 13-0 halftime lead and held on to beat North Canyon 20-0 on the Cox 7 Thursday game of the week.
Three-year starting QB Dominic Portocarrero from North Canyon was picked off twice in the first quarter, very uncharacteristic of him, and Desert Mountain capitalized on the second when QB Drew Seaman hit Dekota D'Angelo from 36 yards out. PAT no good. 6-0 Desert Mountain.
A series later, the Rattlers turned the ball over again and this time it took DM just one play to put points on the board. Seaman and Matt Del Valle hooked up for a 47 yard score that put DM up 13-0.
That would remain the score until late in the 4th quarter. The 3rd quarter was filled with punts by both teams and the game wasn't completely decided until Seaman found D'Angelo again, this time on a short bootleg pass.
***Let's all say a prayer for North Canyon's Alex Schwindt who has taken away in an ambulance during the game.
These were two teams that were expected to make some noise this year. Both still can but NC can't afford to lose another game. The Rattlers never got a rythm going and star RB Tavon Dodson was not 100%. DM seemed to control this game despite not having much of a run game. North Canyon's three turnovers in the first half were devastating. Somehow, NC remained within striking distance until late in the game. Overall, pretty sloppy game with a lot of penalties.
Desert Mountain WR Dekota D'Angelo caught 7 passes for 74 yards and two of the game's three scores.
