Corona v. Dobson

Late score fuels Corona win; keeps playoff hopes alive

Recap

It took a full quarter for both squads to get heated on an uncommonly cold night in Arizona.

Corona got on the board first in the second quarter after 28 yard Dylan Harris FG.

Corona's Billy Johnson intercepted Justin Bailey's pass on the next series and the Aztecs capitalized when Michael Lange scored from 10 yards out. 10-0 Corona.

Dobson finally got on the scoreboard after an Austin Emelity FG. 10-3 at the half.

The second half was much more thrilling as there were several lead changes and two late scores that kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

Corona came out and marched down the field but could get inthe endzone, Dobson blocked the field goal and went down the field and tied the score at 10 on a 30 yard Terrenace Martin run.

Bailey picked off Chase Cartwright at the end of the third and another big Martin run set up a a short Bailey TD run and Dobsn had their first lead of the game. 16-10, PAT was no good.

Corona answered, marching down the field and scoring on another Lange TD. Their PAT was good and the Aztecs had the lead again 17-16.

Two series later, Dobson got back on the board. Martin rattled off a 44 yard run that put the Mustangs at the 1 yard line. He punched in in three plays later. PAT no good. 22-17.

Corona got the ball back with 2:59 on the clock at the 34 yard line and played like a team fighting for their playoff lives. Cartwright hit Austin Crothers for a 23 yard gain, then Chase scrambled for 15 more yards. Ball at the Dobson 28 yard line. Sophomore RB Dominic Mecurio accounted for 27 yards on the next three plays. He had runs of 8 and 12 yards and caught a screen pass for 7 more yards. With the ball at the 1 yard line, Tre Chambers bounced in from a yard out. Two point play was unsuccessful. 23-22 Corona with 57 seconds to play.

Dobson was not able to gain a yard and Todd Peat forced a fumble that was recovered by his brother Andrus to seal the Corona win and their third straight victory.

Bottomline

Great game that could have gone either way. Corona is on a roll and should make the playoffs with a win next week Highland. This is not a team I would want to see early as they have the weapons to cause an upset.

Game Ball

The two RBs in the game were very good. Lange had two scores and Martin had over 200 yards for Dobson.
