Breaking News from Chandler (Az.) Hamilton's Christian Westerman makes commitment. brings you the quotes first.'s #2 rated offensive tackle Christian Westerman from Chandler (Az.) Hamilton has unexpectedly made his verbal commitment.

The Texas Longhorns got a pleasant surprise when Christian made the call today and committed to head coach Mack Brown.

Westerman tells exclusively, "I committed to Texas. We sat down as a family and weighed all of the pros and cons and Texas came out on top."

"The facilities, the coaches, the players are great but what I liked was that they treat players more like family. I liked that a lot because my family is very important to me."

An exciting time for the Westerman family and the Longhorn staff, who according to Christian were yelling and screaming when he delivered the news moments ago. "They were all pretty stoked," he adds.

What exactly did he say to Coach Brown? "I am honored to have this opportunity and am humbled by it and I am going to work hard for you," were the words out of Christian's muth according to his father Chris.

Being a former Pac 10 offensive lineman himself, Mr. Westerman was very key in Christian's decision but he made it perfectly clear that this was his son's choice. "We sat and talked but this is about Christian, not about me. I am so proud of my son. This was just the right thing for him to do. There were a lot of teams talking about coming out to watch during Spring but we just wanted to be honest with everyone and let them know before they wasted their time."

So with 26 official offers to his name, surely some of them will stay in touch trying to swing Christian's choice. He echoed one thing, "I am completely done. I am a Longhorn."
