Offer from "Dream School"

Laveen (Az.) Fairfax defensive end Reggie Gilbert gets first BCS offer

Betty Fairfax High School has never had a division-one football player, being that they have only played one season of varsity play but has been chronically the recruiting of whom rest assured will be their first.

Defensive end Reggie Gilbert has been heating up, receiving his fifth offer from UTEP last night and he tells today that he has received his first scholarship offer from a BCS program.

Gilbert says, "I just got my sixth offer from the University of Arizona."

He continues, "I went down there for their 7 on 7 camp on Saturday and on Sunday competed in their senior elite camp. I got a chance to meet the coaches and get coached up by them."

The UofA staff must have been impressed because they followed up with an offer shortly after. "Coach Belcher (Fairfax head coach) told me to call Coach Kish after I got out of the weight room," Gilbert says. "I did and when I got in contact with him he said he was offering me. Kish said he followed me and my team around during the 7 on 7 and they really like my leadership, how I took control of my team and played with passion and excitement. Then he put me on the phone with Coach Hammer and he said they were very excited about me and that they like my athletic ability and that I am very explosive coming off the ball."

His reaction, "I was speechless. UofA is one of my dream schools. It was just a breath taking moment for me. I can't believe I could be a Wildcat. I can't wait to get a tour of their campus officially and go to one of their games."

UTEP, San Diego State, Idaho, Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona have all offered but the UofA jumps to the top of his leader board. Despite the Wildcats being his early favorite, he says he is not ready to make a commitment yet.

Gilbert (6-3 230) was named 1st team all-region as a junior after making 78 tackles and 13 sacks.
