Defending champions look tough again on paper

The Stuttgart Ricebirds have played in two consecutive state-championship games under Bobby Bolding and have run up a 24-4 record in that time. A third straight trip, despite losing the majority of last year's starting lineup, is not at all out of reach. Sylvan Hills, Wynne and -- our biggest surprise -- Batesville, all figure to contend while Hope and Hot Springs, from the AAAA-Southwest, appear to be just off the pace.
