Tough week ahead for AAAA-West teams

The AAAA-West Conference teams are bobbing along at a 9-6-1 clip for the season, but this week's games could put a small dent in the league's pigskin progress.

The top 3 teams in the AAAA-West Conference remained unbeaten after two weeks. Alma, Greenwood, and Harrison will try to head into conference play unbeaten, but Greenwood may have its work cut out for it. Morrilton will face one of Class AAAA's top teams at their place while Clarksville travels to meet one of Class AAA's top teams. Greenbrier plays an Atkins team that destroyed Clarksville last year while Siloam Springs takes on Ozark and Huntsville battles Yellville-Summit.

Alma at Poteau, Okla. – The Airedales have used a very successful rushing attack, spearheaded by junior Kyle Goodwin in its two non-conference victories. Poteau lost to a depleted Greenwood team last week and should have more problems with the higher regarded Alma team … Alma 21, Poteau 0.

Clarksville at Booneville – Clarksville has struggled so far this season and will be starting its third middle linebacker in as many games this week. Booneville, meanwhile, has been very successful so far this season with two wins under its belt. Booneville is probably a little better than Atkins so expect things to continue in Bearcatland … Booneville 35, Clarksville 13.

Atkins at Greenbrier – The Panthers almost pulled off the upset last week against cross county rival Vilonia. Atkins took advantage of Clarksville mistakes to post a big win. This should be a tough game as Greenbrier will probably put up more of a fight than the inexperienced Clarksville team. So with the edge at home …Greenbrier 17, Atkins 14.

Greenwood at Fayetteville – Will the Blue Dogs be able to overcome the Purple Dogs in Fayettenam? Greenwood might be without more key components of what was going to be a tough team and is considered to be starting over. Meanwhile, Fayetteville is rolling early on, looks like things could get rough here … Fayetteville 28, Greenwood 13.

Mountain Home at Harrison – The Bombers have struggled mightily this season while the Goblins have done anything but. MH fell by 41 to Rogers last week and by 35 in the opening week against Fayetteville. Harrison meanwhile has outscored its AAA opponents 73-12. Mountain Home may be better suited for AAA ball than AAAAA … Harrison 42, Mountain Home 7.

Yellville-Summit at Huntsville – The Eagles couldn't overcome Berryville at their place and will benefit from another home game. Y-S has had an easy go so far this season and should have a better game against Huntsville's experienced squad. We'll just have to see if they have enough to overcome them … Huntsville 21, Yellville-Summit 17.

Morrilton at Batesville – Morrilton picked up its first win under new coach Chris Hill, but struggled to complete a pass in sopping wet conditions. Batesville is ranked No. 1 by the ADG, but could only pick up a tie last week against Searcy. The Pioneers struggled against the Devil Dogs last year before winning 10-7. This game is at home and the Pioneers can probably match Morrilton's speed. The Devil Dogs should be expected to have a good showing, but not everything is clicking quite yet on offense … Batesville 27, Morrilton 15.

Siloam Springs at Ozark – The Hillbillies couldn't score last week against the Airedales while the Panthers could only muster 3 points against Stilwell, Okla. Ozark has made some mistakes early this year and should be a little better team than Stilwell. Siloam Springs' offense has only produced 10 points so far this season and things don't look up this week … Ozark 17, Siloam Springs 7.
