Greenbrier moves ahead of Alma in AAAA-West

It only took eight years but Greenbrier can finally claim that it's ahead of the Alma Airedales in conference play. The Panthers used their close win over Siloam Springs to move to 1-0 over Alma's shutout loss at Harrison. Greenbrier's lead will be tested in the second week of conference play, but for now can claim part of the top spot.

Harrison 21, Alma 0 ­ The Airedales were without their offensive spark in Kyle Goodwin and struggled on offense only gaining 98 yards and losing seven turnovers. Guy Brown scored on a 13-yard run, threw a 38-yard TD pass to Kasey Young, and watched Justin McCutcheon run in from the 2 to cap the scoring in the ball game.
Predicted Score: Harrison 20, Alma 18.

Morrilton 62, Clarksville 6 ­ The Devil Dogs' first-team offense passed its way to four scores in the first 16 minutes of play and used big plays on defense and special teams to lead 49-0 at halftime. Morrilton's first run, which was a 16-yard touchdown run, came with the second team's offense at the three-minute mark of the first half. Morrilton's Mark Kelley was 13 of 22 for 259 yards and four touchdowns in those 16 minutes of action. Clarksville's only score came with 9:28 left in the football game.

Greenwood 37, Huntsville 7  Seth Jones kicked three field goals and Austin Efurd returned a punt for a touchdown as the special teams unit of Greenwood had a big part in the Bulldogs' big win. Huntsville tied the game in the first quarter on a 42-yard pass from Bracken Thompson to Jason Hargis, but the Eagles could not find the end zone again. Micah Fritsche of Greenwood passed for 219 yards and three touchdowns on 12 of 16 passing while leading the Bulldogs to 447 yards of offense. Thompson finished with 134 passing yards and left the game early with an injured hand.

Greenbrier 10, Siloam Springs 7  Greenbrier quarterback Brandon Moreland passed for 103 yards and ran for 51 more in a defensive battle. Siloam Springs scored on its first possession of the second half but couldn't overcome the 10-point deficit at halftime.
