Saline H.S. Hornet Stadium (Saline, MI)
Several of the Midwest's top kicking, punting, and long snapping prospects received instruction and competed for a chance to be ranked in the Fab 50 National Rankings last weekend at Kornblue Kicking's Fab 50 Camp in Saline, MI.
Duke commit Ross Martin (Walsh Jesuit HS, OH – 2012) demonstrated once again why he's the Fab 50's #1 ranked kicker by winning the day's FG competition. Martin outlasted Dylan Mulder (Saline HS, MI – 2012) by drilling FG's from 55, 57, and 60 yards off the ground. Mulder matched Martin kick for kick, but missed his last 60 yard attempt.
Ryan Frain (Scecina Memorial HS, IN - 2012) stood out as the camp's best combo prospect. Frain kicked well and punted even better. His last four charted punts averaged 4.77 hangtime/55 yards with only a slight wind at his back. Alex Barta (Clarkston HS, MI - 2012) also punted well, which is why Michigan and Western Michigan have shown interest in recent months. Barta's best punt was 4.6 hangtime/41 yards.
Despite their sophomore status, 2014 kickers Matt Colella (St. Ignatius HS, OH) and Alex Kenrick (Salem HS, MI) showed why they're prospects to keep an eye on in coming years. Colella converted a pair of 50 yard FG's during competition and both charted 60 yard kickoffs.
Other notable performers were kickers Kevin Cronin (Traverse City West HS, MI - 2012), Connor Shennan (Canton HS, MI – 2013), and Brenton Zuzo (Plymouth HS, MI – 2013).
The next Michigan event is scheduled for November 27, 2011 and the national combine event, the Fall 2011 Kicking Challenge, will be held December 17 in Miami, FL. For more info and other upcoming events, visit www.KornblueKicking.com or contact Brandon Kornblue at (561)702-0203.
