Best in State: Class of 2004 (Defense)

Here's an updated look at California's top football prospects from the Class of 2004. These are players who primarily are known for what they do on the defensive side of the ball. It also includes those we like as athletes. This list was compiled taking into account who emerged at the various Nike Football Training Camps, produced by Student Sports Inc.

Note: We hope you enjoy this free list on the CalHiSports.com web site. On Friday, we will be running a similar list for the Class of 2005 (juniors in the fall). In the next few weeks, we also will be coming out with a California Hot 100 recruiting list as well as a preseason all-state team (which might include some of those juniors). Those features will be for total access premium subscribers to the web site only.

Many of our regular weekly features during the upcoming season, such as the state top 20 rankings, state rankings by division, state record updates, state stat leaders and statewide prep notes column, are part of the total access subscription package as well.

If you plan to be following prep football on a statewide level this fall, don't delay and become a premium subscriber today. Follow the total access prompts above and you could get additional bonuses from TheInsiders.com.

Is a player you like missing on this list?

If that is the case, it could be a player we know about who was just accidentally omitted. Or it could be somebody we don't know about. Feel free to e-mail additional preseason all-state or preseason California Hot 100 nominations to: mark@studentsports.com. And remember, there is a difference between being all-state and Hot 100. All-state is primarily for high school accomplishment. Hot 100 is for college recruiting, how that player is being looked at by colleges and how that player projects to the next level. The Hot 100 can have very little to do with stats from last season.
