2014 NorCal QB Looking for More

Out of Petaluma (Calif.) Casa Grande comes 2014 quarterback JaJuan Lawson whose abilities has already earned him an offer from Arizona. Now, he wants more…

A dual-threat quarterback standing 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds JaJuan Lawson is a threat to hurt the defense through the air or on the ground. He's got good arm strength wants the task of being the field general out there at quarterback. His recruitment started early and he's ready for it to take off even more.

"My recruitment started after my freshman year. I have one offer from Arizona already and just waiting on more."

That's a good time to have teams start offering a player. Lawson has been getting interest from several top teams and that interest is mutual.

"Oregon has shown major interest and I have the same in them," said Lawson. "USC is very interested, but I don't know if it's as a quarterback or as an athlete, so I don't know what my interest in them is yet. Washington I think will be the next to offer and I love them a lot. A few other schools as well."

Those are some impressive schools, so you would think there would be plenty more in terms of a list. However, it appears Lawson may already be narrowing it down. "Yeah, I kind of have a top five. It's Arizona number one, and then two through four in no order is USC, Oregon, Washington and Nevada-Reno."

He likes USC, but he's unsure on if they will offer him as a quarterback. So when he was asked if he'd prefer to be a quarterback instead of changing positions, Lawson said, "I'm a quarterback. I don't want to be a wide receiver or defensive back in college, just a feeling I have."

The position isn't the main factor that will help Lawson make a college decision, though. What does he want in a school?

"Academics, coaches and just the school as a whole. I'm not exactly looking at major BCS schools, I want to go to a school that fits me best."

The styles of offense seem to differ quite a bit, so what kind of style does of quarterback does Lawson feel he is?

"I don't say much (about my style), my style is on film. I'm a throw-first quarterback that can run with anyone in the country."

Lawson continued, "I feel like I bring a dimension much like Denard Robinson does for Michigan. You can't just sit back and cover or come and stop the run, you can't win. Off the field, I'm a very quiet person. I won't make a lot of noise, I just keep everything I can in check."

So what does Lawson like most about his top five schools?

"I like Arizona as my number one because of the offensive scheme and the coaches there now. What they are doing with dual threat quarterbacks and the campus is beautiful. I like USC because of the tradition, academics and the biggest reason is Coach Clay Helton. He is the best coach I've been around and would love to play for them."

Lawson continued, "Oregon; that offense is one of a kind and I've always liked watching that offense go. All the gear too, you can't forget about that. Washington has the best quarterback tradition with 21 of the last 23 starters going pro. The coaching staff is young, energetic and they have something special coming soon. Lastly, Nevada and their pistol offense, when I took an unofficial down there early June, they showed me how it worked and it's something I could do. Also, my cousin is helping coach there so that's another reason."

Lawson looks to be a potential big-name quarterback if he continues with these same schools. Keep an eye out for this dual-threat quarterback to make an impact in the 2014 class.
