ELK GROVE, CA – Eleven teams, two fields and all the action LIVE on GoldenStatePreps.com live blog of the Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 Challenge Central California Regional at Bartholomew Sports Park…

Check back Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for the start of the action…

9:30 a.m. - One early change to pool play schedule as DB Guru vs. TMP Elite Stars has been moved to 11 a.m. Dream Crushers vs. Cali Goldmine is now at 10 a.m.

10:45 a.m. - Dream Crushers crush Cali Goldmine 26-7. It was quickly 12-0 after a TD pass in the first minute and a pick-six on Cali Goldmine's first possession.

On the other side of pool play, Kyle Kearns continues his solid performance tossing three TD passes in Team EBAL Elite's 23-8 win over Bay Area Destroyers, coached by former California Golden Bear safety Marcus Ezeff.

10:50 a.m. - Team DB Guru arrives minus Michiah Quick and will face a loaded TMP Elite team in their first game.

11:05 a.m. - Bakersfield Elite blowout Team Thunder 31-0 in both teams first game. In another mismatch, Team Grizzlies led by Granite Bay (Calif.) quarterback Taylor Peterson roll Team Wildcats, 36-6.

11:30 a.m. - Joe Mixon just put on a show. He wasn't alone as fellow TMP Elite teammates Adarius Pickett, Michael Lazarus, and D.J. Calhoun were impressive. But Mixon was unstoppable.

The four-star running back out of Oakley (Calif.) Freedom scored on two receiving touchdowns and had a 56-yard INT for TD that was ruled a touchback per tournament rules for picking the ball off in the end zone. His first TD came between two defenders as the 6-foot-1 standout out-leaped them to haul in the pass with one hand.

TMP rolled DB Guru 25-6 in eye-opening opener for both squads. TMP is as impressive as any team we've seen this year at Passing Down.

In the other side of pool play, EBAL Elite blanked Santa Clarita Valley Elite (SCV Elite), 16-0.

Thus far, Mixon and Kearns are early candidates for MVP.

12:00 p.m. - Team DB Guru is just getting warmed up. Minus six of their top players, including five-star Michiah Quick, looked a bit better in their second game. Nonetheless, they lost by two scores, 18-6, to unbeaten Bakersfield Elite.

While Team Grizzlies and gunslinger Peterson have scored 78 points in their first two games after destroying Team Bay Area Destroyers, 42-6.

12:41 p.m. - Team TMP Elite Stars rolls to a 20-6 win over Cali Goldmine. Team Wildcats and frosh quarterback Hunter Rodrigues notch the first win over SCV Elite, 30-22.

TMP, Bakersfield Elite, Team Grizzlies, and EBAL Elite are all unbeaten at 2-0 and Dream Crushers are 1-0. EBAL Elite currently playing Grizzlies likely for a top 3 seed in playoffs.

1:28 p.m. - Time to catch up on these scores. In the 12:30 games, Team Grizzlies scored with 30 seconds remaining to beat EBAL Elite, 29-23. In the battle of quarterbacks, Peterson got the edge in this one, but Kearns was on target as well.

Team Grizzlies isn't gonna wow you with skill talent but they are a machine.

The other 12:30 game, saw Team Dream Crushers remain unbeaten with a 28-26 win over Team Thunder.

In the 1:00 clock games, DB Guru found its groove blanking fellow Valley team Cali Goldmine, 26-0. Fresno (Calif.) Edison 2015 prospect Tyler Horton had a momentum changing pick-six early in the game.

Team Wildcats finish pool play 2-1 with a 26-18 win over Bay Area Destroyers, who finished at 0-3.

2:35 p.m. - In the final pool play games of the day, Bakersfield Elite defeats Dream Crushers, 23-22 in OT. TMP in a less than stellar effort beat winless Team Thunder, 13-6, which cost them a higher seed with low scoring output.

In the last pool play matchup, Cali Goldmine notches its first win in OT over SCV Elite, 13-12.

2:45 p.m. - The seeds are in and No. 10 seed Team Thunder is playing No. 11 Team Bay Area Crushers in the play-in game.

No. 7 DB Guru will host the winner of that game in a first round match. No. 8 Cali Goldmine will have a rematch versus No. 9 SCV Elite in the other first round game. Both games begin at 3:15 p.m.

The quarterfinals begin at 3:45 p.m. with No. 1 seed Team Grizzlies playing the 8/9 game winner. No. 2 Team Bakersfield Elite will play the 7/10/11 game winner.

In the 4:15 p.m. quarterfinal games, No. 3 Team TMP Elite face No. 6 Team Wildcats, and No. 4 Team Dream Crushers will play No. 5 Team EBAL Elite.

The top four finishers automatically qualify for the Best of the West Championship on April 28 in Fullerton.

EBAL Elite QB Kyle Kearns

3:40 p.m. - Bay Area Destroyers defeated Team Thunder in the play-game but fell short against DB Guru in the first round.

SCV Elite notched their first win in a rematch of their OT loss to Cal Goldmine. SCV will face top seed Team Grizzlies next. DB Guru advances to face Bakersfield Elite in a rematch of pool play game Bako won 18-6.

4:20 p.m. - In a heated quarterfinal, Bako Elite uses its three un-timed downs in final minute to beat DB Guru. DB Guru appeared to win as Bako QB Even Moore's pass inside the 10 in the final minute was called a sack. After a discussion between the refs, it was ruled no sack and Bako was given its three un-timed per the tournaments rules in the final minute.

Down 14-13, Moore's pass on third down gave Bako the win sending DB Guru home in heartbreaking fashion.

SCV Elite pushed top seed Grizzlies before falling by a TD. Grizzlies and Bako Elite earn invites to Best of the West.

5:00 p.m. - TMP had something to prove after scoring just 58 points in pool play action. The four-star loaded roster blew out Team Wildcats to advance to semifinals against Bako Elite.

Team EBAL Elite eliminated Dream Crushers to set up rematch with Team Grizzlies in semis.

5:30 p.m. - Team TMP Elite Stars kept Bako Elite out of the end zone on a two-point PAT to advance to the finals with a two-point win.

Team Grizzlies also remained unbeated like TMP with a victory of EBAL Elite.

Grizzlies, TMP, EBAL and Bako Elite all advance to Best of the West Finals.

6:00 p.m. - TMP Elite Stars beat Team Grizzlies in OT with MVP Joe Mixon's reception and subsequent TD breaking a 0-0 tie in the 30-minute championship game.

Hands down, Mixon gave the most dominant performance at any Passing Down event this year. Holding over 40 offers, he is rare talent to watch compete.
